Sunset

In eastern New York state, at sunset, the light casted from the sun onto the ground is something out of a movie, maybe even a fairytale. I attempt to see it everyday, but with a crazy schedule as mine, that's often hard to accomplish. My name is Michaela, and my sister Amalia and I are very fond of the sunset, as we have watched it since we were little girls. Tonight, we watched the sunset in the courtyard between our elementary and high school, and it was something quite different for both of us. We usually don't go out of our way to come all the way here, but we decided to give it a try, as we have heard it's often magical how the sunset looks on late summer nights here.

"Michaela, you know that everything I tell you is the truth, right?", Amalia asked me. I became scared as this question was never asked before. She often just tells me what's on her mind. "Yes of course, my dear. What seems to be causing this question?" "Well, lately at school, I've been getting made fun of for my appearance, and I'm really just becoming so upset with all of it." Amalia was at the age now where she is beginning to hit puberty, and everything is changing: Her mindset, her future plans, even her looks.

"Amalia, don't listen to them. You are beautiful and will forever be the prettiest girl I know.", I told her, reassuring that everything is going to be okay. As I finished telling her middle school only lasted three short years, a suspicious man appeared about 100 feet from where we were sitting. He was tall and intimidating, and I started to feel very uncomfortable, so Amalia and I got our stuff together and decided to leave.

"Michaela?" Amalia asked once again. "Yes Amalia." "I don't want to be as pretty as those other girls. They always look so fake with all their makeup and clothes, and they're so mean to me." "Well Amalia, lucky for you, you never have to be friends with who you don't want to be. You can pick your best friend, and your worst enemy. It's all up to you."

"Pinky promise?" Amalia said.

"Pinky promise."
