A Woman Torn

She sits in silence

She is torn apart

She is forced to bear a child

A child she does not want.

He finds pleasure in her pain

He enjoys his power

He is forcing her to bear a child

A child he does not want.

Momma Knows Best

Momma warned me about the masters.

She’d say, “they watch day and night”,

And “They’ll beat you if you run away”.

Momma always prayed that I’d stay.

I didn’t care.

Why should I stay?

I couldn’t bear it.

I had to make a plan to get outta there.

One night, I started running’.

I knew I shouldn’t have,

But I couldn’t stay another day.

I didn’t make it too far before I started tumbling’.

They brought me back.

I never saw Momma cry so hard.

Thought I was going to feel the pain.

Instead, Momma got charred.

Momma Knows Best (II)

I walked home the long way.

I thought it was the safest thing to do,

But momma thought the opposite.

Still, I did it every day.

The riots were too much for me,

So I took the quieter route.

I explained it was out of the way and silent, but momma still did not like it.

I was “just too carefree”.

I told my friend about the detour,

And he was intrigued.

We took it together the following day,

And I felt even more secure.

Until we heard steps from behind us that were not from us.

They got more and more aggressive

Until they stopped

And we were surrounded by the privileged who were ready to cause a fuss.

As soon as I saw them, I knew Momma was right.

There was no one around for help.

No one to hear us.

No one in sight.

My friend was taken by some guys.

That was the last I remembered.

I woke up outside in the woods in complete pain beside his red body,

And I stayed with him until his last few sighs.

The American Defaults

The American defaults are police officers.

They are government officials and are in the media.

They are in the courtrooms and the classrooms.

They are parents.

The American defaults hold the positions that inform and control us.

That is how they have held their power for so long,

But their hold and dominance are weakening,

And even some of their own are slowly becoming blessed with a backbone and vision.

Soon, there will be no American defaults;

Just Americans.
