Mother Earth

Original piece: Mother Earth by Shaylah Omar (2021)

Mother Earth from which we all came

Mother Earth to which we shall return

Your beauty is beyond compare

Why do we take so much

When all you do is give

From the top of frigid mountain peaks

To the warm basins of water down below

We find life in its natural state

Why is it that we let it fall to ruin

One unfateful day, we may say goodbye to your beauty and grace

The brilliant orange leaves of the forest replaced by blazing orange fires

The calm grandeur of ocean waves replaced by hateful hurricanes

Innocent animals evicted from their homes

We must protect you

For you give us so much and ask for so little
