Freedom

As I draw nearer to the sea,

I can hear the thundering of the waves

crashing on the shore

the wind sweeps my hair from my face,

colors my cheeks and stings my ears.

The smell of last night’s bonfire hangs in the air

as people take flight on the ocean without a care

with nothing but their gliders and wind to guide them.

My legs carry me along the shore,

no destination,

no desire to stop

as the hills in front of me beckon me,

to wonder, to explore.

The sun shimmers on the ocean waves like a thousand stars

in the sky as the salty sea calls to me

like the gods have heard my plea

I step onto the smooth sand,

letting the wind rush around me,

splaying my hair, telling me to beware.

When the sea calls to me, I dare not flee.

The crashing of the waves roars louder in my ears

with each step I take towards the rage.

It calls to me, to set me free

I want to be one with the wind and sea.

I want to dance upon the sand as chaotic as can be

for the person I am now is not me.

It is the sea that calls to me!

The feel of sand underneath my feat grounds me

and whispers that I am where I need to be.

To be one with the sea as I submerge myself in the cold water

This is me

I am where I’m supposed to be

I am one with the sea

Do not fear me

As I control the waves and the life of the ocean

I am the one who sets my own future in motion.
